Amr obtained a French Baccalaureate in Cairo in 1974, a BSc in Mechanical Power Engineering at Alexandria University in 1979 & an MSc in Petroleum Development & Economics at the French Petroleum Institute in Paris in 1981. He joined Shell International in The Hague in 1981 & followed a 16-year Petroleum career with Shell in Holland, Thailand, Algeria, Indonesia & the Sultanate of Oman. In 1997, Amr returned home to consult Amoco Egypt for a year on monetising giant natural gas discoveries in Egypt. In 1998, Amr founded Lotus Solar Technologies, a small private enterprise in Cairo that is involved in Solar Thermal, Solar Photovoltaic, Wind Energy & Energy Efficiency. Lotus acts as a consultant, as well as an EPC contractor in Egypt & the region.
